Following last week's government announcement, we have been inundated with registrations for our Summer Internships in London. We are already more than 50% full across the board as students look to finally gain the in-person work experience they've been waiting for.

Please practise the online SHL test before completing the one sent to you via your BMW / Mini Account – these can be accessed from the internet and are a standard test which the more your practise the more comfortable and confident you will become.







CERN - UK Teacher Programme (Remote version)

STEM Ambassadors & STEM Clubs webinar

STEM Ambassadors are STEM professionals who volunteer their time for free to support STEM in UK schools. They can support STEM clubs in a number of ways, easing the burden on club leaders and bringing new knowledge, skills, insights and real STEM careers experiences to your students. National Apprenticeship Week is taking place from Monday 8th to Sunday 14th February with the aim of raising awareness of apprenticeships.    

This is your chance to explore the varying levels of qualifications and the industries you can work in.     

Be curious. Even if you know for sure that university is the path for you, just take a look.  You never know what you may discover.

The National Apprenticeship Show takes place online on Wednesday 10th February between 11am - 6pm and will bring together employers, colleges and providers with those wanting to find out more about what apprenticeships can offer. 

Employers will include: BDO, Sky, Barclays, PwC, NHS, Centrica, Dyson and KPMG.

City of Wolverhampton College are hosting a virtual information session 'Define your future with Science' during National Careers Week on Tuesday 2 March, 4.30pm - 6pm. This session provides young people with the opportunity to talk to Sally Slater, Curriculum Manager of Science and A Levels about the career opportunities science can lead to, highlighting the pathway into many careers in the health industry.

Introducing The Hacking Lab, suitable to be set as home learning

We would like to introduce our new Cyber Security programme for 16-19 year old students; The Hacking Lab which is free to your school.

This new programme is fully funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority and endorsed by the Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Due to the pandemic The Hacking Lab can be accessed as a pack for teachers to set as home learning. Sessions are pre-recorded and easy to follow. 

The Hacking Lab supports:

  • 16-19-year-old student’s coding journey
  • the school’s computer science curriculum
  • the PSHE Ofsted requirement
  • increasing awareness of cyber security and the opportunities it can bring.

During The Hacking Lab, the students will learn:

  • Cyber Security 101 past and present
  • Roles and skills of Cyber Security
  • Network Security
  • Cyber-attacks (Ransomware, Malware, Phishing)
  • Cryptography Challenge

The Hacking Lab is Neurodiverse-friendly. Many neurodiverse people find their natural home in focused tasks like coding. We support, safeguard and advocate to help these students reach their full potential.

Apprentice Laboratory Technician – Find out More Session
Wednesday 10th Feb - 11AM

Balfour Beatty VINCI has exciting opportunities for Apprentice Laboratory Technicians to join our team to work in Birmingham.  
This role is a level 3 apprenticeship. Working within the site laboratory team you will test the properties of bulk construction materials including concrete, aggregates and bituminous materials both within the laboratory and out onsite.
The results of these tests will be used to improve the performance of existing products, to eliminate faults with materials already in use, and to help with the development of new technologies. 
This is a unique opportunity to develop a career within the construction sector, offering you the chance to develop skills and specialisms that are highly sought after.

National Apprenticeship Week Learnlive Event - Tuesday 9th Feb 2021

To showcase apprenticeship opportunities across the Black Country as part of National Apprenticeship Week (8th to 14th February) and to provide teacher CPD around apprenticeships. 

Student Event- 1.30pm to 2.30pm

The Ladder for the Black Country recognises that young people may be unsure about their next steps after their transition into post 16 education.  Choosing the right career or pathway is an important step.  Apprenticeship week enables young people to investigate and review a variety of pathways open to them.

This Learn Live event is designed to raise awareness of the various options available through the Apprenticeship route including information from independent training providers, colleges and employers.  Apprenticeships range from intermediate level 2 to degree level 7.

The session includes information from employers as to what they are looking for in future talent to enhance and build their business and from apprentices themselves explaining the choices they have made to build their futures.

There will also be representatives from each provider who will be able to answer any questions you may have during the event.
