Summerhill Open Evening

Kristian Sargent, on our Open Evening success

On the 3rd of October we held an open evening for any families that wanted to come in and see what the school was like.  The families where toured around by student volunteers, answering any and all questions the groups asked.  Around the school, students and teachers would be helping and showing casing their subjects, for example in Food Technology students were cooking and showing off the facilities.  In other rooms there would be activities such as painting, sewing and more.  Every half hour there was a talk where our Head talked about what the school can offer and how excellent the staff we have here are.  Other facilities were showcased: our sports hall, ready for basketball, badminton, football and any other sports; our music rooms, fully equipped science rooms; computer rooms, alongside laptops and iPads that teachers can book to make their lessons easier for students.  We are proud of our sports teams too, which cover basketball, rugby, badminton, netball, hockey and football.

We also arrange trips to places like Stratford-Upon-Avon, Italy, Iceland and America!  Our school also has numerous extra curricular clubs:  performing arts, sports, English and journalism, science, enrichment, humanities and for Years 11 students there is additional support.

The evening was a huge success!  We look forward to welcoming all our new students into the Summerhill family.
