On Thursday 24th May, we had an enigmatic show performed by the students and staff of Summerhill.  Brightness, joy and emotion were given in bucket-loads as the talented members of the school community took to the stage.

The beautiful textiles work that was on display in the entrance really captivated the audience members, thanks to the exquisite efforts of our textiles students.

The night was full of laughter, music and happiness, but that’s not to say that blood, sweat and tears didn’t go into Thursday night's performance.  Dancers, Choir, drama students, Show Band, African Drummers, Steel Band and soloists have been working tremendously hard, and if I do say so myself, it was quite rewarding!

The Summerhill Choir started off the night with their performance of ‘Oh Fortuna’ which really set the pace for the rest of the evening.  Solo performances from Harrison Ellis, Maisie Gameson and Samantha Crawford moved the audience, causing many to shed not one, but many tears!  Group performances including Emma Pryce, Elizabeth Bradshaw and Marta Klinska were truly astounding and Emma’s solo in ‘Amazing Grace’ really lifted the spirits of everyone in the room.

The quality of music was so good that we even had teachers and students on their feet, not only giving standing ovations but also dancing along to the music performed by the bands. 

Drama performances of ‘Giovanni’, ‘Blood Brothers’ and ‘James and the Giant Peach’ had the audience in fits of laughter but also moved by the raw talent that the young students emanated.  An outstanding performance from Ethan Hunt in the Café had people gasping in awe at the astonishing pianist. 

Dancers graced the stage with performances that shocked the audience with beautiful choreographies such as ‘This is me’.  The African Drummers were impressive and fluent as they shocked the audience with their exuberant performance.  Finally, the steel band closed the night with pieces such as 'Titanium' and 'Brazil'.

We here at the Constellation, want to say a huge well done to Mr Reynolds, Mr Bibby, Miss Williams, Miss Brothwell, Mr Brown and Mr Laird for their dedication to this performance because without them, it wouldn’t have been possible.  We also want to say a thank you to the audience for being supportive during the show, and of course all of the students who took part.
