Review/ A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Ella, with a glowing review of a recent read

“THE CASE IS CLOSED. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.

But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by murder, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic got her final-year project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fantastic read. One of the best books I’ve ever read, and I have read quite a few.

The protagonist, Pippa Fitz-Amobi, shows the readers that a young person can do anything they set their mind to, if they really care. No one ever thought that a 17-year-old student would be able to solve a ‘closed case’… yet that’s exactly what Pip did.

This book is extremely gripping, and so addictive that I read it in two days - I would have read it in one, but everyone needs sleep. A Good Girl's Guide shows the reader that if you want to do something in life, or solve a problem, you have to work hard to achieve what you want.

My only wish for this book would be for her not to find love, and I know that sounds harsh, but I don’t think this book needs it. The friendship between her and Ravi is enough, and I’m disappointed it was made into more. Pip was an independent woman, but she starts to rely on Ravi more than she should have to; granted he helped a lot in solving the case, it was unnecessary for them to rely on each other emotionally and romantically. So that’s why I give this only four stars.

Holly Jackson is an excellent writer and, this being her first novel, has really set herself up for success.

Furthermore, the sequel: “Good Girl, Bad Blood,” is also as brilliant as this one, and the third, and final, instalment is set to come out later this year- and I cannot wait.

If you’re a fan of “One of us is lying” or “This lie will kill you”- this book is perfect for you.

Happy reading!
