CORONAVIRUS CLOSURE UPDATE

RE: CORONAVIRUS CLOSURE UPDATE – FRIDAY 3 APRIL 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe through these strange times. School has been open over the past two weeks, with a small skeleton staff each day, looking after the children of Emergency Key Workers. I’d like to once again place on record my thanks to the amazing staff we have at Summerhill!

I know that you have been receiving plenty of work to support students with their studies. I would like to say thank you to parents and carers for all that you have been doing to keep virtual learning going during this time. I know that for some families, this has caused increased levels of stress and this has never been our intention. We know that everyone is doing their best; please do not worry if everything is not complete.

These are tough times and we understand the different pressures that each family faces with younger children, work commitments and dealing with self-isolation and illness. We will continue to do our best to send work and support but know that there are many alternative ways to learn new skills.

As we approach what would have been the Easter break, students will not be set work according to their lesson schedule. There may be Easter holiday homework set for some classes, but we see the Easter break as a time for families to do things together less formally and for others to catch up as best they can.

The setting of online work will resume when we would have normally returned to school week commencing 20 April 2020. Updated guidance on the Summer 2020 exams has been issued today and a separate letter will be sent to all Year 11 students. Exam grades this year will be based on teacher assessments and judgements.

Please keep up to date with ongoing developments through our usual means of communication. We will post regular updates on our website (www.summerhill.dudley.sch.uk), Twitter account (@SummerhillSch), Facebook page (www.facebook/summerhillkingswinford), Parent Pay and our new Weduc app.

During the closure, any pastoral, safeguarding or student concerns can still be raised via a dedicated email address which is studentsupport@summerhill.dudley.sch.uk and a senior member of staff will respond accordingly.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy Easter, when it arrives. For many, Easter and spring are almost synonymous. It's a time of newness, optimism and hope for the future. School remains open during the break to continue to provide childcare for the children of Emergency Key Workers only. Again, thanks to the staff who have volunteered to work during this time.

With very best wishes to all the Summerhill community.

Yours sincerely
