Summerhill School

SCHOOL CLOSURE UPDATE – FRIDAY 20 MARCH 2020 + YEAR 11 UPDATE

Dear Parents/Carers

Further to the Government announcement yesterday, I can confirm that Summerhill School is now closed to ALL STUDENTS until further notice. In line with the government statement last night, we will aim to offer childcare provision for children of ‘Key Worker’ parents. Thank you to the parents who have already requested this. Our childcare for next week is now sorted and a separate email will be sent directly to affected parents with specific details later today.

To aid our staffing levels, places must be booked IN ADVANCE, if this is required moving forward.
If you meet the ‘key worker’ definition and need this childcare support for week commencing 30 March 2020 please email us directly to Keeley Stone via kstone@summerhill.dudley.sch.uk
with your child’s name, date of birth and year group, along with your job title and employer,
no later than 7.30am on Friday 27 March 2020.
Please indicate your need for all days – Monday 30 March to Friday 3 April.
Please put ‘KEY WORKERS CHILDCARE’ in the subject line. Emails to other addresses may not be monitored.
An update letter with regard to Easter holiday provision will be issued in due course.

Please keep up to date with ongoing developments through our usual means of communication. We will post regular updates on our website (www.summerhill.dudley.sch.uk), Twitter account (@SummerhillSch), Facebook page (www.facebook/summerhillkingswinford), Parent Pay and our new Weduc app.

During the closure period, no other students are allowed into the school building and work will be set online via Show My Homework (SMHW) on a daily basis. Students should log in via the RM Unify link on the school website. The login details will be their usual username and password used every day in school. If any student has an issue with access to IT equipment or logging into the system, they should email the ICT support team via support@summerhill.dudley.sch.uk with their full name, date of birth, year group, postcode and form tutor. PLEASE NOTE, any student correspondence to teachers, must be done via official Summerhill email accounts and not personal Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail ones. Access to school emails is done via RM Unify also.

During the closure, any pastoral, safeguarding or student concerns can be raised via a dedicated email address which is studentsupport@summerhill.dudley.sch.uk and a senior member of staff will respond accordingly.

These are unusual and challenging times – I never imagined upon taking the helm of Summerhill, that I’d be leading the organisation through an unprecedented peace-time national crisis; I’m blessed that with the support of an incredible team of staff. We’re extremely robust, resilient and well equipped to respond to what is, a simply unbelievable situation.

I would like to place on record my personal thanks for the simply brilliant people I work with at Summerhill on a daily basis. I’m so thankful that I am part of the team! I have no doubt when all this is over, we will come back together again as an even stronger and resilient community; grateful for the little things, valuing people a bit more, finding fun and laughter in the daily grind, maintaining a sense of perspective and discovering the power to show kindness to others even when dealing with our own adversities.

Yours sincerely
