Summerhill School

Review of the year

Evie Gameson, with a report on the 2018-19 academic year.

This year has been filled with many ups and downs, from wins and losses to unity and rivalry.  But now as the year ends, we must review the past spectacular months. Let’s start at the very beginning of the year with our first house competition: the return of the limbo. With steel pans offering a musical motivation it seemed to push Pegasus to take the first winnings.  Would they be our winners? Or would it be Draco who won 1st in the pumpkin carving competition in the mid of our Halloween festivities? Perhaps it would be the mighty bears who took the winnings in the rounders competition. Or finally, last year’s victors Orion who came 1st in the have I got news for your competition?

But life at Summerhill isn’t all about competitions; one of the other big aspects is also participation in extracurricular clubs like textiles Tuesday, Summerhill steel band and rounders among many others.  Some big things only come once a year like our annual show which this year was Sister Act starring Summerhill’s most musically talented students and Summerhill’s sports day when people with a talent in the athletic department get to shine. Whether you win, lose or draw you’ve taken part and that’s what really counts, because it's the students of Summerhill School that really matter - you're what we're here for.

But without further ado, I am pleased to announce that the winner of this spectacular year is… that magnificent flying beast, Pegasus. Their hard work over the past year has really shown why they deserve to be champions. Every knock back and every loss they greeted with a warm smile and a plan.  From spectacular re-enactments of “Annie” to their amazing collection of merits, they show the heart and soul of Summerhill, with success in the mind and kindness in the heart.  They’ve really shown us all how its done.

So, from the constellation team of 2019 we would like to say well done to all the houses and good luck for next year.
