The Dudley Teen Book Award is now in its sixth year and is going from strength to strength. This year over 250 students from across secondary schools in Dudley have taken part, avidly reading the six books on the shortlist that were published in 2016 and voting for their favourite book hoping that it will win.
The award ceremony took place at Dormston School on Tuesday 21st March, where the winner was announced. Four of the shortlisted authors were there and students were treated to an insight in to how they write and some of them read extracts from their book. There was an opportunity afterwards to buy a book and have it signed or to get an autograph. Twelve Summerhill students from years 7, 8 and 9 took part and really enjoyed getting the chance to meet some ‘real’ authors.
The winner was ‘Cogheart’ by Peter Bunzl. It is a really exciting Victorian adventure full of murder, mystery, mayhem and dastardly plots. It has mechanical servants, airship battles and the ultimate prize – the cogheart.
